On 27 march 1943 the Archer class escort carrier HMS Dasher was steaming off the East side of the Isle of Aran carrying out practice take offs and landings when there was dull explosion followed by a larger and more violent explosion. As flames and smoke belched out of the hull of the ship the Dasher began to settle by her stern. On the flight deck a pilot-less Sea Hurricane started to slide towards the sea as the ship began to sink. Within five minutes the Dasher was gone taking with her 379 men. Gary Allinson will be presenting his lecture on history of HMS Dasher and the expedition to lay a Plaque on the wreck to commemorate the lives which were lost on HMS Dasher. The lecture will be presented at Bishop Auckland Sub Aqua Club at 20h30-21h30 on the 30th April. All divers are welcome and admission is free.
