The
Ocean Diver course can be divided into two parts. Part one covers the theory and pool sessions, which have been
designed to teach you all the skills you will require to embark on your
underwater exploration. Part two of
the course enables you to put into practice all the skills learnt during part
one by conducting 5 open water dives. During the dives you will also develop the
skills needed to keep you safe underwater.
The
emphasis of
Ocean Diver is to build a sound foundation of diving skills &
knowledge, which are then built on throughout the course.
| Experience required: | None |
| Equipment required: | Initially none, but students are encouraged to provide Mask, Fins & Snorkel for pool sessions. As training progresses to open water, students will be required to either hire or purchase their own equipment. |
| Requirements: | Ability
to swim 200m, minimum age 14 years,
Sports Diving medical Membership of BSAC & a local branch |
| Qualification: | Ocean Diver certificate, enabling you to dive with someone of the same grade or higher to a maximum depth of 20 meters. |
Once
you have qualified as an Ocean Diver, you may feel you would like to progress
further. The next diving grade
attainable is Sport Diver. This course not only builds on your theoretical
knowledge but also takes you back into the swimming pool to build on rescue
skills & techniques. You will then conduct four open water dives, which will
enable you to develop & practice your rescue skills as well as teaching you
how to perform simulated decompression stops.
The Sport Diver qualification will enable you to undertake more
adventurous diving. The BSAC set a maximum depth of 35 meters for qualified
Sports Divers.
| Experience required: | BSAC Ocean Diver qualification (or equivalent). |
| Qualification attainable: | BSAC Sport Diver qualification. |
If
you’ve completed your training with another organisation eg. PADI, SAA, CMAS
etc. There is a direct path for you to cross over to the BSAC system & allow
you to continue to develop your diving skills. We’ll be happy to discuss
individual requirements.
On completion of your Sports Diver qualification you can progress to Dive Leader & then further develop your diving & organisational skills to progress toward Advanced Diver both of which allow you to dive to the sports diver maximum of 50 meters & carry out decompression stop diving. Or you have the option to begin working towards teaching others by embarking on the BSAC Instructor Training Scheme.
